Welcome to our second instalment of Meet the Experts, our monthly initiative to introduce Elastic Team members and share their stories. Elastic Team members qualify to join the community after a vetting process that includes technical tests, cultural assessments, and communication evaluations. They bring with them their years of experience in a wide range of industries, not to mention their unique interests and passions that drive their work. This month, we’re spotlighting three Elastic Team community members to celebrate their skills and expertise.
Tonia Gbuji | Lagos, Nigeria
Tonia Gbuji is a Business Analyst with vast experience in diverse industries including education, finance, and building regulatory, with active involvement in digital transformation, process improvement, and automation projects. Over the past six years, these projects have helped her build her experience and shape her approach to project execution.
What industries inspire you the most?
For my area of expertise, I will say it's more around Business Process Improvement and Digital Transformation which help solve critical enterprise problems, leading to improved service delivery, revenues, and more. As a Business Analyst, I can play my role in any industry. I’m driven by continuous learning and development to ensure that I'm not limited by domain knowledge of any industry.
How do you enjoy your free time?
In my free time I enjoy bingeing on my favourite TV shows.
What do you snack on when you're working on projects?
Biscuits—I love biscuits.
Ashutosh Singh | Bengaluru, India
Ashutosh Singh is an experienced software engineer with over four years of specialisation in Flutter app development. He thrives on working with critical systems and delivering reliable solutions. He also enjoys working in fast-paced startup environments and has a proven track record of over four national-level Hackathon wins in India between 2019-2022.
What industries inspire you the most?
The industries that inspire me the most are healthcare and renewable energy. I believe these industries play a crucial role in shaping a better future for all species on Earth. The advancements and innovations in healthcare ensure improved quality of life, while renewable energy offers sustainable solutions for our energy needs, reducing our impact on the environment.
How do you enjoy your free time?
In my free time, I enjoy a few different activities. Firstly, I love playing competitive games. They provide a great outlet for me to challenge myself and have fun. Additionally, I find working out to be a great way to stay active and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Lastly, I enjoy watching thrillers as they keep me engaged and entertained.
What do you snack on when you're working on projects?
When I'm working on projects, I often snack on fruits and fruit juices. I love their refreshing taste and they provide a healthy boost of energy to keep me focused and productive.
Semawit Araya | Ethiopia
Semawit Araya is an experienced data scientist and data engineer with a BSc degree in electrical and computer engineering and MSc in data science. Born and raised in Ethiopia, she has experience with Python, SQL, ETL, PostgreSQL, Spark, Airflow, and Kafka. She also works with Azure, AWS, and Snowflake. She has also worked on several ETL tools using different data models. She enjoys solving complex business problems by leveraging data-driven insights combined with her communication and presentation skills.
What industries inspire you the most?
I have always been fascinated by the potential for AI and machine learning to transform the world. In addition to my professional pursuits, I’m an enthusiastic member of the AI community, regularly attending conferences and networking with other professionals in the field.
How do you enjoy your free time?
In my free time, I like to engage in a variety of different activities to keep things interesting. One of my favourite things to do is to go hiking or spend time outdoors, especially when the weather is nice. There's something incredibly rejuvenating about spending time in nature and getting some fresh air.
I also enjoy spending time with friends and family, whether that's having a meal together, going out for a movie or game night, or simply catching up over the phone. It's important to me to maintain those connections and build strong relationships with the people who matter most in my life.
What do you snack on when you’re working on projects?
When I'm working on a project, I typically like to have a light snack nearby so that I can keep my energy levels up without having to take too much time away from my work. Usually, I'll have some nuts or fruit on hand—almonds, cashews, and strawberries are favourites of mine. I'll also usually have a cup of tea or coffee nearby to help me stay focused and energised.
